Household Hint #2

HH#2: If you have hungry wildlife in your neighborhood, do not put food on your window sill.

********************

Last week I baked a birthday cake for a friend. Taking the hot pans out of the oven I placed them in the kitchen window so they would cool down quickly. Then I took the dog for a walk.

When I returned a slight noise caught my attention. My senses were on alert but nothing seemed amiss, until I went to check on the cake.

A hungry squirrel had eaten a hole in my screen in hopes of reaching the chocolaty goodness. Fortunately, I must have scared him off. But as you can see from the photo, his work was in earnest. I put a lemon on the sill for this photo so you could have a means to judge the size of the gaping hole.

There was so much screen missing I couldn’t help but wonder: did he eat the wire mesh or did he bite and spit, bite and spit?

I’m pretty sure the guy who did this is the one pictured below.

LMAO-but not at the squirrel-I'm laughing at your red arrow. You are precious, Pyzahn.

Geez! I can't believe he hadn't managed to squeeze through that huge hole. You got home in the nick of time. My fiance spent a week trying to get squirrels out of his Mom's attic. They kept getting back in by chewing through this insanely thick wire that blocked off the hole they had created by chewing through the eaves. One of them managed to work his way from 2nd floor attic space down to the 1st floor laundry room. My fiance came home cursing every day for a week, but managed to capture all of them live in traps and release them a few miles away. He now loathes squirrels...

Hee-hee...oh my gosh, this is so funny! I am so sorry about your screen, though, Pyzahn. I hope the little guy bit and spit...I mean trying to pass a chunk of window screen? Ouch.

Oh dear, he obviously liked the smell of your cakes!!! :-)

I've had one of my cats pinch a defrosting chicken off the kitchen counter. I walked into the room, just in time to see the chicken's rear end disappearing through the cat door...

Re your question ... yes, those photos were taken last year during winter.

Damn! You intercepted my secret agent Nutty McZipper! His last report was "after an hour of nibble&spit, I'm in, I'm in! I have the target in my spec, ready to retrieve" Then a buzz of static and that was it.

(as I sit in a comfy 70s chaise, caressing a white Persian cat)
Til next time you bake, Patrizia...

MUAHUAHUAHUA (haunting villain laugh)

LOL! The picture of the "culprit" is so cute. That hole in the screen, not so much.

I like Cormac Brown's comment! Munchies, anyone?

Hi Pyzhan,

Thanks for your visit to It Strikes Me Funny and comment re meatless Monday.

In my attempt to eat more vegetables I've planted my first serious garden in some time; a gray squirrel has eaten my first two rows of bean, so I dusted off the humane trap and will do battle.

The little beggars go through screens as well? I'd better safeguard my supply of beans and peas.

Cheers,

Gord H.
